Guard - Nor & Dar Years

Hi All!  Keep us posted on your lives!!
We’d love to hear from you!!

Snap Cup:
Nicole is acting as the lead in the ACHS play, The Curious Savage!  The play begins at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. Break a leg, Nicole!

A Note from a past alumni! Thanks for the e-mail!!! So fun to read!!

As the Captain of the 1970-1971 squad, I was surely surprised by the pictures I saw of the uniforms on the ACHS website. Way back then (in the old days), our uniforms consisted of a navy-blue wool pleated skirt (no more than two inches above the knee, and you better believe you WILL be kneeling on the floor to be measured), a white blouse with a Peter Pan collar (do you girls even know what that is?) , an off-white wool blazer, and a self-made tie of navy-blue gross-grain ribbon. Another year the blazer was replaced with a navy-blue wool vest. Sure a far cry from what you have now. I sure wish I had a pix to send. You'd really get a hoot!! I was on the squad either three or all four years (after this long, memory fades and I have lost all my yearbooks) and I think I did hold another position either one or two other years.

Our only function back then was to parade the flag for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner at the start of basketball and football games. No banners/flags, no dancing, no music, no shows, no hats, no streamers, no costumes, no competition. Just a drummer to cadence our marching, a short, synchronized marching routine, the Star Spangled Banner, then out again. Very short, quiet, and solemn. Trips? Band camp? Disney? What's that? Our farthest trip was from the building down to the football field. We never even left the school grounds!! You've come along way, baby!!

I grew up living on Deep Lake Road, and my parents and brother still live in Antioch. I have lived in Pensacola FL for the last 30 years and an employed by the U.S. Navy as a Budget Officer (Navy financial stuff).

I wish you girls all the best. My words of wisdom to you all are this. Embrace your high school years with all your might. "Real" life will be upon you soon enough, and you can never get these four years back.

GO SEQUOITS!!!

(Delayed) congrats to Alexa H. for making the ACHS Varsity Dance Team! Good luck in your upcoming competition season on your way to defend the state title!

Noreen & Steve’s house is really coming along! We now have a roof & stairs leading to our second floor!  We are hoping to have shingles & windows/doors by early next week!

Alumni, Alyssa C. has been staying super busy! With school & traveling to Florence in Jan. for 4 months, then Africa for a couple weeks, she is definitely not bored!!  Thanks for the updates, Alyssa! We’d love to hear from other alumni!

Cameron, Dar’s son, has made the AUGS 7th grade basketball team! Good luck Cam!

Noreen & Darlene purchased a “legacy” at Walt Disney World last June to honor the many guard members that traveled to Florida to perform over the years.  It was finally engraved & permanently posted when Nor visited in January 2007.  Here is our legacy at EPCOT center in it’s prime spot; front row facing Spaceship Earth!!  Thanks for the memories!!!  Hopefully some of you can show your families when you travel there in the future!! Thanks to everyone!!!
