  • 2002 - West Side Story

hey yall!! I'm Amanda Negron. I graduated from ACHS in 2004. back then my name was Mandy Woodford. but On September 24th, 2005, I got married to my best friend Tony Negron. I moved down to Norfolk, Virginia in October of 2005. Now I'm working at a local day care, going to school part time at Wesleyan, I do volunteer work at the local zoo, and take care of my husband, cats, and apartment. needless to say, I've been really busy lately. We have 2 cats (Rico & Sasha), and a ferret named Roxy. we live about 15 minutes from the ocean which is so awesome. I've heard that in about 2 years, my husband (who is in the US Navy) might be getting stationed in Italy which I'm really excited about cause that means they move me and our stuff there too. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.=)

I had such a blast in high school thanks to the color guard. I have so many favorite memories from being part of such an awesome team. I still will blurt out little inside jokes from competitions such as "go cheetah, get banana...hey monkey, get funky!!" I performed in Celtic Tradition, Creatures of the Night, and West Side Story. I couldn’t tell you which season was my favorite cause I learned so much and had a blast each year. For the West Side Story season, I was co- captain which taught me so many important lessons about working as a team and being a leader which has helped me a lot in my teaching career. but most of all, the thing I loved most about color guard is the friendships and memories i made and still carry with me. My experiences with guard helped me grow, got me in shape, and made me a lot more social. I treasure every memory I have of working with the color guard. I have to send my thanks to Noreen and Darlene, and everyone who was in the squad with me.

For all the newbies, always have fun when your on that field. Dont sweat the small stuff. if you mess up, no big deal. I know I messed up plenty of times. It happens.  Just do your best and PRACTICE for the next show. everyone makes mistakes. Don’t beat yourself up like I use to do. all the hard work you put into sweating you patoosh off on the practice field getting bit by mosquitoes, really does pay off. =) just make the most of everything. you will always have those memories to look back on. I STILL look back and think of the shows we did and think to myself "oh yea! I was in there!!! see that dot in the picture? That’s me! and were all together. we rock." but most of all, Don’t forget the sunscreen. "apply then re-apply, or else you'll fry, and then you'll die." Lol. I actually use that now with my students for field trips to the beach at the end of the school year and summer camp. Only instead of "and then you'll die", I have to say "and then we'll cry".
Anyways, I loved watching Pirates of the Carribean before I moved. y’all did great!! good luck next season. and have fun!! best wishes...
