I’ve been involved with ACHS Marching Sequoits and color guard for the last six seasons. I played trombone, designed and modified drill, and performed with the rifle in winter guard. What I’d like to be remembered for is being a color guard wannabe during band camp for Creatures. I remember like begging and pleading with the girls to let me carry their stuff. Some of them stood strong and said no, no one else can touch my poles. But Lesley let me carry hers. Ah, those were the good ole days. And doing the cha cha slide? What a great exercise. I was never able to really get it with the drop spins though, only with rifle spins. I guess it just goes to show that if you don’t practice something you won’t get better at it.
Since I graduated in 2003, I’ve continued to write drill for the marching Sequoits. I’m studying Chemistry and Wheaton College and am the President and Assistant director of our Pep Band. I’ve been growing more and more interested in the DCI circuit and wish I had time for the WGI one as well. Sadly, my school year is fairly well booked with classes and part time jobs.
My only permanent guard wound is what leads me to my advice for new rifle members. I’m sure it applies to everyone but the injury was with a rifle. Even though rifles are white and show up better than most things at night, don’t toss quads in the dark. In fact, don’t practice in the dark at all.
