Lane (DeYoung) Magera Class of 2004
Wow, it seems like ages since high school guard days! I have only three pieces of advice,
- Practicing really does make a difference
- Watch out for holes in football fields and roll stepping backwards over rifles and flag poles (Unless you like spending 2 weeks on crutches due to sprained ankles)
- Smiling (even big, fake, I definitely don’t want Vaseline on my teeth smiles) through out the whole performance can be the difference between wining and that two-tenths away from winning¦
I graduated ACHS in May 2004 and spent 4 wonderful years on the varsity guard.
Shows were:
- Celtic Spirit
- Creates of the Night
- West Side Story
- Mangione Magic.
Life for me has been busy past guard, I attended CLC full time and work full time for a Surveying and Mapping company in Grayslake. My husband, Mathew and I plan to move to Pennsylvania next year after our wedding next September. He will be pursuing a career in Lutheran ministry at a university out there. Hope all is going well with all guard members that have graduated and gone down the road of life. Love always, - Lane DeYoung
P.S. My favorite color guard quote¦
Color Guard is a lot like football, “ you don’t truly understand it until you’ve participated. However, you can learn to appreciate it by just being a spectator. It can be addicting, beautiful, frustrating, and wonderful all one instance. Just like any other sport, it takes practice to make it work, but just getting there is half the fun”.
